Samsung releases 1.2μm 50Mp ISOCELL GN1 with 100-million phase-detecting photodiodes

As one of the leaders in the global semiconductor industry, Samsung today officially released the new ISOCELL GN1 sensor, which has 1.2μm 50Mp, which Samsung claims is it’s first to support Dual Pixel and Tetracell sensors have made great breakthroughs in sensitivity and autofocus speed.

The ISOCELL GN1 sensor is very fierce in that it has 100 million phase-detection focus points, and supports Dual Pixel technology that can perform phase detection by receiving light from different angles. Its excellent hardware attributes and the blessing of this technology can provide users for bringing a first-class autofocus experience, even in low-light environments, the ISOCELL GN1 sensor can still achieve very fast autofocus, and Samsung also provides a software algorithm that can synthesize 100 million pixels for mobile phone manufacturers.

For low-light photography, Samsung naturally took real effort. The Tetracell multi-pixel merge technology used by the ISOCELL GN1 sensor can improve the ability of the sensor to capture light. The sensor can use this technology to combine four pixels and finally make the pixel size. It reaches 2.4μm, which means that the photosensitivity of the sensor has been increased by four times, and more abundant photos can be taken under low light. Of course, the resolution is only 12.5 MP.

In addition to Dual Pixel and Tetracell technologies, the ISOCELL GN1 sensor also supports Smart-ISO function, real-time HDR and electronic image stabilization, and supports video recording at up to 8K@30fps.

Samsung revealed that the ISOCELL GN1 sensor will start mass production this month.
