Samsung disclosed the specifications of the Exynos Auto V920 chip

Some time ago, Samsung introduced the Exynos Auto V920 chip, supplanting the erstwhile Exynos Auto V9. This marks Samsung’s third-generation automotive chip geared towards novel In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) systems. In conjunction with Hyundai, there are plans to incorporate the Exynos Auto V920 into the latter’s new vehicle models by 2025.

Recently, Samsung disclosed the specifications of the Exynos Auto V920 chip. The CPU portion embodies a tri-cluster architecture of 2+4+4, boasting ten Cortex-A78EA cores. The GPU section employs the AMD RDNA 2 architecture’s Xclipse GPU. Coupled with a dual-core NPU, it offers a robust AI and ML performance of 23.1 TOPS. Further, it integrates a DSP for audio processing, with three next-generation HiFi 5 cores. According to Samsung, the new chip yields a CPU performance boost of 70% compared to its predecessor, with the GPU performance doubling and the AI performance escalating to 2.7 times the original.

The Exynos Auto V920 chip can power up to six high-resolution screens, inclusive of the dashboard and entertainment screens for both front and rear passengers, offering an encompassing driving and entertainment experience. It also supports up to twelve cameras capable of recognizing objects in the frame, providing intelligent and autonomous driving features. With its HDR capability, it can ensure that assistance and autonomous driving performance remain unaffected, even under suboptimal lighting conditions.

The Exynos Auto V920 chip will be fabricated using Samsung’s 5nm process technology. Additionally, it supports LPDDR5 memory, UFS 3.1 storage, dual 10Gbps 2x USXGMII/SGMII/RGMII Ethernet connections, as well as comprehensive video decoding capabilities at 4K@240FPS and video encoding at 4K@120FPS.
