Qualcomm announced its first quarter financial results for fiscal 2022

Qualcomm recently announced that its sales in the first quarter of fiscal 2022 (October 2021 to December 2021) reached a record $10.7 billion, up 30% year-on-year, and net profit rose 34% to $3.4 billion.

Among them, the chip business contributed $8.85 billion in revenue, a year-on-year increase of 35%; the technology licensing business contributed $1.8 billion in revenue, a year-on-year increase of 10%. In the chip business, the chip business for mobile phones (smartphones) was $5.93 billion, a year-on-year increase of 42%; the chip business for the Internet of Things was $1.48 billion, an increase of 41% year-on-year; the chip business for automobiles was $260 million, a year-on-year increase of 21%; the business of RF front-end chips used to connect to 5G networks was $1.13 billion, up 7% year-on-year.

For January-March 2022, the company forecast sales of $10.2-$11.0 billion, of which $8.7-9.3 billion would come from its semiconductor equipment business, both slightly above analysts’ estimates.
Our record quarterly results reflect the strong demand for our products and technologies, with QCT revenues exceeding those of any fabless semiconductor company,” said Cristiano Amon, President and CEO of Qualcomm Incorporated. “We are at the beginning of one of the largest opportunities in our history, with our addressable market expanding by more than seven times to approximately $700 billion in the next decade. Our one technology roadmap positions us as the partner of choice for both mobile and the connected intelligent edge.”

The company is also eyeing the automotive semiconductor business, which currently accounts for less than 3% of the company’s total sales, and will work to expand sales of its 4nm computer vision SoCs that form the core of the Snapdragon Ride Vision system for the autonomous driving era. General Motors, BMW, and Renault are also listed as major customers for the company’s vehicle platform.
