HackerRank: JavaScript is the 2018’s most popular language
HackerRank released the “2019 Developer Skills Report” yesterday, which surveyed over 71,000 software developers from more than 100 countries. HackerRank is a well-known recruitment platform in countries, providing job-seekers with a series of services such as programming exercises and interview preparation.
Software developers are needed in all walks of life, which means that employers are very competitive with technical talent. HackerRank’s report is designed to help developers who are looking for different roles from CEOs, corporate executives, hiring managers, and recruiters to understand the developers they are looking for.
Let’s continue to look at the details of the report.
Programming language
HackerRank asks developers which programming languages they know and which programming languages they want to learn. 73% of developers said they knew JavaScript in 2018, compared with 66% in 2017. JavaScript is the most well-known programming language in 2018, and the most famous programming language in 2017 is Java.
The programming language that developers want to learn in 2019
Last year, developers wanted to learn Go, Kotlin, and Python. This year, developers are still enthusiastic about these programming languages. However, we found that developers’ enthusiasm for learning Scala has declined, and interest in learning about TypeScript has increased.
Technologies worth adopting
In terms of new technologies being applied, 53% of developers believe that the Internet of Things (IoT) is most likely to be adopted in the next two years. After all, housing, cars and the entire city are becoming more and more connected, so this should not surprise us.
Artificial intelligence technology is not behind. 50% of developers believe that the possibility of deep learning being adopted before 2020 is “very realistic”, followed by cloud machine learning Cloud ML (41%) and computer vision (38%).
