IDC: the semiconductor market will reach $522 billion in 2021

According to IDC data, global semiconductor revenues will grow to $464 billion in 2020, an increase of 10.8% over 2019. IDC predicts that by 2021, the semiconductor market will reach $522 billion, a year-on-year increase of 12.5%. IDC predicts that consumer, computing, 5G, and automotive semiconductors will continue to grow strongly.

It is reported that in the mobile phone semiconductor market, IDC predicts that mobile phone semiconductor sales will increase by 23.3% in 2021, reaching $147 billion. At the same time, the agency also predicts that 5G mobile phones will account for 34% of all mobile phone shipments in 2021, and 5G mobile phone semiconductors will account for two-thirds of the total market revenue.

In the PC semiconductor market, IDC believes that this year’s revenue will reach $173 billion, a year-on-year increase of 7.7%. PC Semiconductor’s sales in this market in 2020 will increase by 17.3% to $160 billion, which is faster than other semiconductor markets, which shows that its demand is extremely strong.

In addition, IDC predicts that the sales of automotive semiconductors in the automotive market will increase by 13.6% in 2021. “Automotive sales recovered in the second half of 2020, but the supply constraints for the automotive semiconductor market for some products will last through 2021 as fires and fab shutdowns further impacted the automotive semiconductor market and it takes time for chips to move through the automotive ecosystem, specifically in the U.S. and Europe,” said Nina Turner, research manager, Automotive Semiconductors.
