Samsung Exynos SoC with AMD RDNA 2 architecture GPU will be postponed until July

At this year’s Computex, AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su has confirmed that the RDNA 2 architecture will be integrated into Samsung Exynos SoC and will support ray tracing and variable rate shading. Earlier, Samsung has confirmed that the next generation of Exynos SoC with custom GPU will be the flagship model.

Samsung often chooses to use two SoCs at the same time on some models. For example, Qualcomm’s SoC is selected for products sold in the United States, and Exynos SoC is used for products sold in South Korea. The Exynos SoC based on the RDNA 2 architecture is likely to be launched in all markets. If this Exynos SoC proves to have better performance, in the end, more codec functions may be added in the future to allow more different platforms to adopt. Earlier news pointed out that Samsung intends to use this SoC on laptops.

AMD Ryzen 7000

Twitter user @UniverseIce said that Samsung and AMD originally planned to release Exynos SoC with integrated RDNA 2 architecture GPU in June, but for some reason, it was postponed to next month. The specific time has not been determined.

According to previous speculations, it is generally believed that the new Galaxy S series flagship phones will use this SoC. For a long time, the Exynos series has been inferior to its rival Qualcomm’s similar products in terms of GPU performance. This is also the situation that Samsung hopes to change after the introduction of the chip using AMD’s GPU architecture.

At the beginning of this year, Samsung had an unnamed new SoC that defeated Apple A14 Bionic in the GPU benchmark test. It is generally speculated that it is the Exynos SoC with integrated RDNA 2 architecture GPU.

At present, the specifications of the Exynos SoC integrated with the RDNA 2 architecture GPU have not been confirmed. People are more curious about the performance of the RDNA 2 architecture under low power consumption. The RDNA 2 architecture has demonstrated its strength on a series of Navi 2x chips.
