Qualcomm officially announced a commercial fast charging solution, Qualcomm Quick Charge 5. According to the specification, it only takes 15 minutes to charge a 4500mAh battery.

The company stated that the charging speed of the Quick Charge 5 version is about 400% faster than that of the Quick Charge 4 version, and the charging temperature can also be lowered by 10 degrees Celsius to prevent the excessive temperature from affecting performance.

In terms of hardware requirements, the new version only supports Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 series and subsequent high-end chipset devices. The low-end Qualcomm chipset does not support this technology for the time being.

Qualcomm said that it will launch new products equipped with Snapdragon 865/865+ processors from the 2020 Q3 quarter and support the Quick Charge 5 fast charging protocol to allow users to enjoy fast charging.

What is interesting is that Qualcomm said that the Quick Charge 5 specification even supports the USB-PD protocol, so it is likely that the Quick Charge 5 specification can also be used in future laptop devices.
