Microsoft’s January .NET update caused some Windows 10 users to experience a BSOD

Microsoft’s regular update of the stable version released in January still has new problems while fixing old problems. These problems affect some users.

These regular updates include KB4598299 and KB4598301. These updates are not cumulative security updates but security updates for the .NET framework.

Some users experience application crashes and blue screens of death after installing the update, similar to the previous situation, and a small number of users are currently experiencing such problems.

Of course, considering that Windows 10 currently has 1 billion users, even a very low proportion of problems may affect millions of users.

In fact, this update of the .NET Framework (applicable to .NET Framework 3.5/4.8) causes the most problems that some software may be abnormal and may crash.

Including but not limited to Microsoft Visual Studio, Windows Presentation Foundation, etc. Unable to load or unexpected crash problems.

For example, some users claim that dragging windows in the Visual Studio 2019 version may cause a crash. After testing, uninstalling the above .NET update can solve the problem.

Microsoft responded to user feedback in the official community, saying that it is working hard to fix it, and the Visual Studio team has issued an emergency update to solve these crashes.

According to user feedback, “In Visual Studio 2019, I performed the traditional window drag to relocate the Properties Window to be docked with the Solutions window [and] Visual Studio crashed. Uninstalling KB4598299 on both computers fixed the problem.”
