Microsoft Edge adds Password Monitor feature
Firefox launched a password monitor function with partner organizations in 2018. Firefox will automatically notify users when their saved passwords are leaked.
Subsequently, Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge also followed up on this measure, and after a long period of testing, the Password Monitor feature of Microsoft Edge was officially launched.
Microsoft stated that users can now use the Microsoft Edge browser to enjoy this service, and Microsoft Edge will regularly scan for passwords and detect leaks.
The company adopts a variety of encryption measures to prevent the disclosure of user passwords during the use of the password monitor feature. Microsoft said that users have no other security risks when using this feature.
To detect whether the password is leaked, various passwords need to be collected in advance, and these passwords are actually extracted from the leaked databases of major Internet companies and websites.
Leaks of various databases are also common, and the number may be even greater. Eventually, these leaked databases will be collected and sorted.
After finishing sorting, a very large database will appear, which may contain tens of billions of account numbers and passwords, and new databases will be merged in time.
Firefox and Google browsers do the same. In essence, password leak detection relies on these leaked databases to compare data.
If the comparison shows that a certain password used by the user has been leaked, then an alarm will be issued, so that the user can change the password as soon as possible to prevent hackers from attacking the user.
