Microsoft announced that Windows 10 IoT will add new features and updates in the coming year

The customized version developed by Microsoft for IoT devices is called Windows 10 IoT. This series of versions include both a feature-rich enterprise version and a streamlined core version.

The full-featured components of the IoT Enterprise Edition are often used as edge expansion and computing, and can even run containers of virtualization attributes on IoT devices.

The core version of the Internet of Things is launched for low-power devices. The main feature of this version is that the hardware configuration requirements are extremely low so low-cost devices can be produced.Windows 10 IoT October Update

At the Build 2020 Global Developers Conference, Microsoft announced the adjustment of Windows 10 IoT version, of course, these adjustments are mainly for enterprise-level developers.

Among them, the core version of the Internet of Things will improve compatibility and support chips of more brands and architectures. At the same time, Microsoft will also optimize the installation package to reduce the storage class.

Microsoft said that in the current test, the volume of the core version of the Internet of Things has been reduced by 40%, which allows developers to run the system on more devices with extremely low hardware configurations.

In the enterprise version, Microsoft will conduct more in-depth integrated cloud services, which can be deployed in conjunction with Microsoft Azure IoT Edge and use container applications.

This means that developers can even run Linux applications via containers on these IoT gateways and edge computing devices, giving developers more choices.

It is worth noting that Microsoft also announced that the next long-term service version of Windows 10 IoT will be integrated, that is, the core version of the Internet of Things will be integrated with the enterprise version.

Among them, the IoT Enterprise Edition is actually not much different from the ordinary version of the Windows 10 system. The IoT Enterprise Edition is regarded as the full version of Windows 10.

This version mainly provides enterprise manageability and security for IoT solutions. Of course, it can also be used as a management platform to manage IoT core devices.

Microsoft said that more information about the integration of the core and enterprise versions will be announced next week.
