India: 275 Chinese apps have been strictly reviewed
Previously, the Indian government banned 59 applications from China for so-called security reasons, including TikTok, UC browser, Tencent games, and so on.
WeChat also announced last weekend that it will stop providing services to Indian users. All WeChat users who register with their mobile phone numbers in India will be forced to log out and cannot log in.
ByteDance has said that it is communicating with the Indian government and hopes to resume operations, but in fact, the Indian government is blocking more applications from Chinese developers.
The Ministry of Information Technology of India has recently planned the second batch of applications to be blocked. The applications blocked this time are mainly cloned versions or lightweight versions of the previous applications.
For example, the TikTok Light version launched by Tik Tok in India is now also banned by the Indian government, and users who want to use the lightweight version or the fast version will also be blocked.
At present, the Indian government has not officially announced the list of specific applications that have been blocked, but the Indian media have widely reported on this, claiming internal news.
It is worth noting that the Indian government is currently strictly approving 257 applications of Chinese developers to check whether the so-called privacy of Indian users will be stolen.
Among them, PUBG, AliExpress, ByteDance’s Resso and ULike, and Xiaomi’s Zili may also be banned by India.
An Indian official who requested anonymity stated that some apps have been marked in red for security reasons, while others that violate data privacy policies have been listed separately.
The official said that these apps pose a threat to India’s sovereignty and integrity, and the Indian government is raising funds to conduct strict scrutiny of these apps.
The 14 apps of Xiaomi that will be strictly reviewed, apps from Bytedance, Meitu, LBE Tech, Perfect Corp, Sina Corp, Netease Games, Yoozoo Global are also on the list.
