Google will officially release the Pixel 7 series and Pixel Watch next month
Google announced that it will hold a Pixel event on October 6, 2022, at 10:00 am EST with the theme “It’s all coming together this fall”. The new generation of Pixel 7 series smartphones shown at this year’s Google I/O 2022 developer conference should be officially released, as well as its first smartwatch, the Pixel Watch.
The Pixel 7 series will be equipped with the second-generation Tensor chip, and the appearance continues the design style of the previous generation, but the horizontal bar at the rear camera position is made of aluminum instead of glass. The Pixel 7 will be available in Obsidian, Snow, and Lemongrass, while the Pixel 7 Pro will be available in Obsidian, Snow, and Hazel. The estimated pricing of the new product is likely to be similar to the Pixel 6 series.
Google also disclosed the official name of the second-generation Tensor chip in the Google Store. The new SoC is called Tensor G2, and the internal number is “GS201”, but Google has not announced the complete specifications of Tensor G2. Samsung is still said to be undertaking mass production of the Tensor G2, which will be manufactured on a 4nm process, the same process used by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen1.
Although Samsung is ready for 3nm GAA technology, Google has not chosen a new process, which is estimated to be related to cost. In addition, the yield rate is also the focus of attention. Qualcomm chose to switch to TSMC due to the poor yield rate of the Snapdragon 8 Gen1. There have been recent reports that Samsung is testing several new SoCs, one of which may be a next-generation Tensor chip for next year’s Pixel 8 series, and a rumored switch to the 3nm GAA process is possible.
