On August 26, China hosted the 2025 China Operating System Industry Conference, jointly organized by the China Copyright Association, the China Software Industry Association, and the China Electronics Information Industry Group, with Kylin Software and the openKylin Community serving as co-organizers. The central highlight of the event was the unveiling of Galaxy Kylin V11—the nation’s first commercial Linux distribution based on Linux 6.6.
The release combines the user-friendly interface of a desktop OS with the robustness of a server platform. Built on the new PanRock architecture, Galaxy Kylin V11 features an immutable system design for enhanced reliability and introduces the Enlightened Package format, enabling applications to run seamlessly across different versions of the OS. It incorporates the proprietary Kylin-WLCOM graphics engine, supporting diverse rendering scenarios, and the programmable security framework KSAF, which delivers adaptive and customizable protection. Complementing these is support for the MCP protocol, laying the foundation for an ecosystem of intelligent agents.
Galaxy Kylin V11 also offers high-fidelity, lossless video playback, smooth multitasking even with hundreds of open windows, an updated tabbed file manager, and an intelligent workspace. Enhancements extend to AI Assistant, Kylin Notes, and the personal knowledge base, while distributed computing technology enables harnessing resources beyond the local device. The system supports Snap Layouts, intelligent screensavers, and cross-platform synchronization.
On the server side, the system delivers simplified AI environment configuration, ready-made inference solutions, and hybrid offline task technology to boost efficiency. With support for a user-defined low-latency network stack and MPTCP tools, Galaxy Kylin V11 is well-suited for mission-critical domains such as financial transactions.
Security is a central focus of the new release. Galaxy Kylin V11 introduces a two-tier trust framework and dynamic protection mechanisms, including file safeguarding, traffic encryption, anti-screenshot features, and secure data erasure. The Security Center provides real-time system monitoring and can block threats ranging from AI model attacks to restriction bypass attempts.
For developers, the system provides over 2,200 APIs through the Kylin SDK along with a full suite of development tools. Backward compatibility with Galaxy Kylin V10 is ensured via KARE and the Enlightened Package framework. Migration is facilitated by a dedicated wizard, and server update management is streamlined through an integrated platform.
The presentation was endorsed by senior representatives of government bodies and industry, including leaders from SASAC, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China Electronics, and leading hardware manufacturers. Kylin Software emphasized its commitment to advancing homegrown technologies, fostering an open ecosystem, and strengthening the global standing of the national operating system.
