Thunderbird is finally getting a mobile application

In addition to launching the Firefox browser, Mozilla has also continued to update its email software Thunderbird. In an earlier preview, Ryan Lee Sipes, Thunderbird’s product and business development manager, revealed that a mobile version of the email service will be launched soon, meaning that after many years, users will finally be able to use Thunderbird in the form of an app.
The mention of the APK file from Ryan Lee Sipes’ related tweets means that the Thunderbird mobile app will be available on the Android platform first, but it is uncertain whether the iOS platform version will follow up.
Thunderbird 78 Ubuntu 20.04

Thunderbird first launched version 1.0 in December 2004. In 2012, due to the improvement of functions, no significant results were achieved, so the development mode was changed to only provide security maintenance and stability updates, and new functions were left to the open community for free development. In 2015, the development resources were split from the original Firefox team. At that time, it was even considered that Thunderbird could not have enough influence in the market, and the update was terminated for a time.

However, starting in 2019, Mozilla has adjusted the Thunderbird update status again, strengthened the interface design, and strengthened the support for the Google Gmail experience. In terms of security and privacy, special personnel will also be hired to improve the encryption protection effect of Thunderbird to prevent users’ personal letters from being stolen.

But at present, many people have become accustomed to sending and receiving emails through mobile phone default mail services such as Gmail. Even if Thunderbird successfully launches a mobile version, it may still face many challenges to attract people to use it.
