  • Cyberpunk 2077 supports NVIDIA DLSS 3

CD Projekt Red released a major update of the Cyberpunk 2077 PC version, adding support for NVIDIA DLSS 3 and NVIDIA Reflex on compatible hardware. While Nvidia demoed DLSS 3 early on with a GeForce RTX 40-series graphics card, it took nearly three months for CD Projekt Red to finally add it.
The new patch is about 6GB. After installation, players using GeForce RTX 4090 / 4080 / 4070 Ti can enjoy the performance improvement brought by DLSS3 frame generation technology. At present, DLSS 3 is limited to Ada Lovelace architecture GPU. The advantages of DLSS 3 have been seen in the early GeForce RTX 4090 test, but I didn’t expect to wait so long for this technology to be added to the game. Nvidia officially introduced this update and recommended that players install the latest graphics driver.

Nvidia recently announced that 6 games will support DLSS 3, which will be updated in the next few weeks, including Dying Light 2 Stay Human, Hitman 3, Dakar Desert Rally, Deliver Us Mars, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, and PERISH.
In addition, Nvidia confirmed that “Cyberpunk 2077” may not be able to start the game after the update, because some players have installed MOD, so it must be disabled first.

  • NVIDIA launches DLSS 3: Up to 4x faster performance

At the GTC 2022 “GeForce Beyond” special event, NVIDIA launched a blockbuster technology in gaming applications – DLSS 3. It is reported that DLSS 3 is an integration built on the basis of DLSS 2, and game developers can quickly integrate this feature in existing games that already support DLSS 2 or NVIDIA Streamline. Compared to the previous generation of DLSS 2, the latest DLSS 3 not only has a better frame rate increase but also due to the addition of new technology, can also improve the frame rate of CPU-constrained games.

It is reported that DLSS 3 is driven by the new fourth-generation Tensor Core and the new optical flow accelerator of the GeForce RTX 40 series GPU, and is the latest version of NVIDIA’s acclaimed deep learning supersampling technology and features groundbreaking optical multi-frame generation.

Optical multi-frame generation technology generates completely new frames, not just pixels, resulting in an amazing performance boost. A new optical flow accelerator based on NVIDIA’s Ada Lovelace architecture analyzes two consecutive frames of game images and computes frame-to-frame motion vector data for objects and elements, rather than modeling with traditional game engine motion vectors. Greatly reduces AI visual anomalies when rendering elements such as particles, reflections, shadows, and lighting.

NVIDIA says that by synthesizing a pair of super-resolution frames in the game, along with the engine and optical flow motion vectors, and feeding them into a convolutional neural network, a new frame can be calculated and generated, a first for real-time game rendering accomplish. Combining brand new frames generated by DLSS with DLSS Super Resolution frames enables DLSS 3 to use AI to reconstruct seven out of eight display pixels, resulting in a 4x increase in game performance compared to no DLSS.
Since DLSS-generated frames are executed as post-processing on the GPU, even if the game is CPU performance limited, you can get a performance boost from it. For CPU-bound games, such as physics-intensive or large-scale games, DLSS 3 enables GeForce RTX 40-series GPUs to render games at up to twice the computational performance of the CPU.

Meanwhile, DLSS 3 integration also includes NVIDIA Reflex, which synchronizes the GPU and CPU, ensuring optimal responsiveness and low system latency. It is reported that DLSS 3 has been widely used in the game ecosystem, and more than 35 games and applications are about to support the technology.

The GeForce RTX 40-series GPUs support DLSS 3 and will debut on October 12 with the availability of the GeForce RTX 4090 GPU.
