Ubuntu 18.10 released: improved game performance
Ubuntu 18.10 is released, this release focuses on cloudy deployments, AI software development, new community desktop themes, and richer snap integration.
Ubuntu Server 18.10 images are available for all major public clouds. For private clouds, Ubuntu 18.10 comes with OpenStack Rocky for AI and NFV hardware acceleration, and Ceph Mimic for reducing storage overhead. Ubuntu Server 18.10 includes the latest Kubernetes 1.12, which automates the configuration of clusters using transport layer encryption to increase security and scalability and to respond faster to dynamic workloads with faster scaling.
The Ubuntu secure Linux app store has 1,700 developers, 4,100 snaps, and supports 41 Linux distributions. The official desktop snaps for Spotify, Plex, and Skype are famous and are now available for major public cloud and server applications, including the Google Cloud SDK, AWS CLI, and Azure CLI.
Also, the Linux 4.18 kernel and the updates to Mesa and X.org have significantly improved the gaming performance of the system. Graphics support extends to AMD VegaM in the latest Intel Kabylake-G CPU, Raspberry Pi 3 Model B, B+ and Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. Ubuntu 18.10 introduces the GNOME 3.30 desktop and Yaru, a new default theme for community development. The PC-compatible fingerprint unlocking feature has been applied in the latest versions of Firefox, LibreOffice, and Chromium.
