Sony unveils the HT-AX7 speaker

Sony has always been a beacon of innovation in the realm of audio products, gracing us with exquisite creations such as the LSPX-S3 Glass Sound Speaker and the SRS-NS7R neckband speaker. Recently, Sony has ventured to introduce another distinctive Bluetooth speaker, the HT-AX7, fashioned to immerse the user in cinema-grade surround sound wherever they may be.

Per Sony’s official description, the HT-AX7 speaker outstrips the dimensions of a conventional portable Bluetooth speaker. Its central body boasts a pill-like design, flanked by two cylindrical satellites on each side, connected through a magnetic attraction. Users are at liberty to detach these satellites and position them judiciously, generally in a triangular formation with the main body, to cultivate immersive sound through the utilization of 360-degree spatial audio mapping technology.

Sony maintains that these speakers can also be strategically placed in the corners of a room to saturate the space with high-quality sound.

While the HT-AX7 consists of three components, its usage remains straightforward. The satellites will automatically pair with the main body, requiring users only to connect their smartphones, tablets, and other devices to the HT-AX7 via Bluetooth. With the assistance of the Home Entertainment Connect application, users can exercise complete control over their speaker.

In terms of battery life, the HT-AX7 lasts for approximately 30 hours. It supports rapid charging, enabling roughly 2.5 hours of playback from a brief 10-minute charge. From total depletion to full charge, the main body demands about 4 hours, with the satellites requiring an additional half an hour.

Lastly, the speaker is currently available for pre-order in the United States, priced at $499.99 USD, a price point quintessentially Sony.
