Samsung announced that LPDDR5X can be applied to the Snapdragon platform

Last year, Samsung launched the industry’s first LPDDR5X based on 14nm process and 16Gbit, covering various high-speed data service applications including 5G, AI, and AR. Samsung announced today that it has validated the LPDDR5X for Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile platforms.

Samsung has been working closely with Qualcomm to optimize it for the Snapdragon mobile platform since the 14nm LPDDR5X was released last year. The speed of this LPDDR5X is 7.5 Gbps, which is 1.2 times that of general LPDDR5 (6.4 Gbps). It can improve the performance of ultra-high-resolution video recording, as well as AI performance such as speech recognition, image recognition, and natural language processing. By adopting advanced circuit designs as well as dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS), LPDDR5X power consumption can be reduced by approximately 20%.

The relevant person in charge of Samsung said that the successful verification of its LPDDR5X solution on the Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile platform has once again proved Samsung’s leading position in DRAM technology. Samsung hopes that applications of this high-performance, low-power memory will expand from smartphones to data centers, PCs, and automobiles, enabling more devices and systems to operate with greater efficiency.

Qualcomm Technologies is an industry leader in enabling and adopting the latest LPDDR DRAM specifications. Enablement of LPDDR5X on Snapdragon platforms will enhance user experiences with new features and improved performance for gaming, camera, and applications using our latest AI Engine across various Qualcomm Technologies’ product lines,” said Ziad Asghar, Vice President of Product Management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.
