Microsoft reminds Exchange Server 2013 to end support on April 11, 2023

Microsoft Exchange Server 2013, released in January 2013, will no longer provide security updates at the end of support on April 11, 2023. The support period for this product is 10 years, after 5 years of mainstream support, it entered extended support in 2018 and ended extended support in 2023. It is very close to the end of extended support. Microsoft reminds enterprise users who are still using this version to arrange upgrades as soon as possible to avoid subsequent security impacts. The new version recommended for enterprise upgrades is Microsoft Exchange Server 2019.

Enterprise IT administrators who use Exchange Server should know that this product is currently like a sieve full of bugs and Microsoft is constantly fixing it. After the end of support, Microsoft will not continue to deal with security vulnerabilities or other problems. You can imagine what it will be like to continue to use it in the future. The email system is very important for an enterprise. Whether it is internal communication or external communication, emails may involve confidential information, and if it is leaked, it will have a great impact.

So using an unsupported product means that the enterprise will face various security holes, and it is almost certain that the mail system will be hacked by then. So hurry up and upgrade while you still have a few months of security support, with optional upgrades to Exchange Server 2016 and Exchange Server 2019.

Before an enterprise decides to upgrade, it is necessary to evaluate whether the hardware supports the new version that needs to be upgraded, including network, hardware, software, and client. When everything is ready, you can consider backing up all data and upgrading to the new version. After the upgrade, you can continue to receive security updates to ensure security. Microsoft of course also recommends that businesses migrate to the Microsoft 365 Enterprise subscription. Another thing to note is that some companies have compliance requirements themselves, and continuing to use the Exchange Server 2013 after the end of support will not meet security audits.
