Intel talks about supply and mining related issues

Intel’s GPU team recently accepted an interview with Gadgets 360 and talked about the non-public graphics card, driver, and load of Arc GPU. In terms of estimates, the new Arc graphics card will not have a setting to lock the mining performance, and the supply will not be very sufficient.

As the first generation of graphics cards based on the Xe-HPG architecture, Intel’s Arc series has attracted the attention of many players. In addition to the fact that everyone now finally has more choices besides NVIDIA and AMD, it is also a graphic supply, so players may buy more graphics cards. However, many people worry that as soon as the Arc graphics card comes out, it will be favored by mine bosses. In this regard, Intel said that Arc series graphics cards will not have measures to limit mining performance.

Intel Arc Alchemist graphics card

Intel’s Raja Koduri, SVP and GM of Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics, as well as Roger Chandler, VP and GM of Client Graphics Products and Solutions, and Jeff McVeigh, VP and GM of Data Centre XPU Products and Solutions: This is a tough one to answer, but what I will say is that we are designing Intel Arc and the Alchemist family of products as gamer-first and creator-first. All the optimisations, the features, everything we’re doing, is really to make sure we can solve problems and deliver value to gamers and creators. As far as like software lockouts and things of that nature, we’re not designing this product or building any features at this point that specifically target miners. As far as actions we’re taking to avoid or lock them out, it’s a product that will be in the market and people will be able to buy it. It’s not a priority for us.

Many players may be more concerned about whether they can buy Arc series graphics cards because the price of graphics cards has risen to the sky over the past year and the quantity is not large. Regarding the supply of Arc series graphics cards, Intel said that it cannot guarantee that the supply of graphics cards will be very large, but it is the same whether it is NVIDIA or AMD.

Is Intel confident that it will have enough supply of Arc GPUs are launch time?

Raja Koduri: The response to our announcements at architecture day from our OEM customers and end users has been phenomenal. Everyone is welcoming us, so that’s great news. We’ll be coming in as a third player. I’ll always be very cautious, when the demand is so high and when the market is so hard. I can always use more supply. So I’m not going to say I have enough supply in this high-demand market. I think every one of my competitors will say the same thing right now.

In addition to the above topics, Intel also talked about the non-public version of Arc graphics cards and drivers, etc. Friends who are interested can see the full text of this interview at this link.
