Ubisoft cancels development of two games, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora game delayed until next year

Ubisoft will cancel the development of several games, including the “Ghost Recon Frontline”, and the VR game “Splinter Cell VR”. In addition, the game “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora”, which was originally scheduled to be launched at the same time as the second “Avatar” movie, will also be delayed until after March next year at the earliest.

In a recent email to all employees, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said some projects would be canceled and Ubisoft would cut spending to “essential” projects. He also said that some of the game projects in development will also be canceled, focusing on other higher-priority projects.

Yves Guillemot emphasized that even under these measures, Ubisoft is still targeting an operating profit of more than $400 million.
Affected by the cutbacks, some employees revealed to Kotaku that Ubisoft’s studios around the world have reduced salary increases, reduced recruitment, and froze a lot of budgets, but there have been no layoffs for the time being. As for the game that was clearly affected this time around, Ghost Recon Frontline was deemed to feel too much like Call of Duty: Warzone during testing, so it was reworked earlier this year.

According to Yves Guillemot, the delay in “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora” was due to the impact of the epidemic and the plan to launch the game as a blockbuster IP.

In addition, Ubisoft also plans to launch a licensed AAA mobile game, but Yves Guillemot did not disclose more details.
