  • Nvidia is in no rush to boost RTX 40-series graphics card shipments

    Recently, NVIDIA released the GeForce RTX 4070 based on the Ada Lovelace architecture, with numerous products from its partners already on the market, starting at a price of $599. Aside from a few reference models, the majority of custom versions are readily available.

    To date, NVIDIA has launched products featuring the AD102, AD103, AD104, AD106, and AD107 chips, encompassing both desktop and mobile platforms. Rumors suggest that NVIDIA will unveil the GeForce RTX 4060 and RTX 4060 Ti by the end of May, further expanding its product lineup. Many believe that NVIDIA should seize the opportunity to increase sales of the GeForce RTX 40 series graphics cards and reverse the downtrend in gaming business performance over the past few quarters.

    RTX 40-series graphics card shipments

    However, according to a Digitimes report, NVIDIA appears to be exercising caution in the sluggish market environment, with no plans to increase orders for GeForce RTX 40 series GPUs, as they are content with the existing production capacity arrangements. Since NVIDIA prepaid TSMC for a substantial portion of its custom 4N process capacity fees between 2021 and 2022, this should be sufficient to support their plans.

    The current NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 series graphics card product line covers a large portion of the segmented market. With the release of the 60 and 70 series, the mainstream market will gradually transition to Ada Lovelace architecture-based products. Industry insiders suggest that one reason NVIDIA is not eager to introduce new products is to allow its partners sufficient time to clear the remaining GeForce RTX 30 series graphics card inventory before replacing them with new models.

    Historically, PC component shipments have increased in the third quarter. If there is a need to augment orders, manufacturers typically place orders several weeks in advance to prepare. However, following a period of the significant decline in the PC industry, many businesses are facing numerous uncertainties in the market, leading to more conservative strategic choices.

  • RTX 30 series may still continue to be sold after releasing GeForce RTX 40 series

    Previously, hacker groups stole massive amounts of data from Nvidia’s internal servers, including important information on Nvidia’s next-generation Ada Lovelace architecture GPU. According to previous news, Nvidia should release GeForce RTX 40 series graphics cards based on the new generation of Ada Lovelace architecture GPUs in a few months.

    Nvidia RTX 3090 Ti suspend

    According to PCMag, at a Morgan Stanley investors event on Monday, Nvidia CFO Colette Kress says

    Even during this period of COVID and supply constraints, it’s been interesting because it’s given us the opportunity for gaming to continue to sell both the current generation (RTX 3000) as well as the Turing generation (the RTX 2000 series). So we’ve been doing that to provide more and more supply to our gamers in that. And we may see something like that continue in the future.”

    The past few months have seen Nvidia release the GeForce RTX 2060 12GB, as well as the GeForce RTX 2050 for notebook platforms. Nvidia’s next-generation GeForce RTX 40 series could be rolled out in stages, with high-end models first and then gradually down the line, a process that could take a year or more. This situation is similar to the GeForce RTX 2060 and GTX 1650/1660 series still being sold for a long time after the previous release of the GeForce RTX 3060/RTX 3070/RTX 3080/RTX 3090 series.
    Similar strategies were not uncommon in the past. Nvidia has long sold the two generations of graphics cards at the same time, but with long-term high demand and capacity constraints, such operations may become routine and systematic to meet users who are temporarily unable to purchase new architecture, high-performance graphics cards due to supply shortages.

    Additionally, Colette Kress expects GPU supply to improve every quarter of the year, stressing that it’s not ready to announce any new products at an investor event.

  • MSI reportedly lowers the price of GeForce RTX 30 series, Sapphire increases the price of Radeon RX 6000 series

    Recently, many board card manufacturers have started a new round of price adjustments and will implement new price policies next. If you pay attention to the price trend of the graphics card market in the past period of time, you will find Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 series and AMD Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards, from August to November this year, it is generally in a slow upward trend.

    According to VideoCardz reports, MSI and Sapphire, the two major manufacturers of cards, have recently introduced the latest price adjustments. MSI has issued a notice and made a decision to lower the price of Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards in December. Among them, GeForce RTX 3080/RTX 3080 Ti will be reduced by 300 to 600 RMB (47 to 94 USD), GeForce RTX 3070/RTX 3070 Ti will be reduced by 100 to 300 RMB (16 to 31 USD), GeForce RTX 3060/RTX 3060 Ti will be reduced by 100 to 200 RMB (15 to 31 USD), and there is no price adjustment for other models in the product line.

    However, AMD Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards are the opposite. In the latest price adjustment policy in December, Sapphire has increased the prices of most of its RDNA 2 architecture graphics cards, and some models are still in short supply. Among them, the Radeon RX 6900 series has increased by 500 RMB (79 USD), Radeon RX 6600 XT series increased by 400 RMB (63 USD), Radeon RX 6600 series increased by 350 RMB (55 USD), other models of the product line are temporarily not available.

  • NVIDIA will launch the GeForce RTX 30 “Lite Hash Rate” series in mid-May

    According to news in the past period of time, GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and GeForce RTX 3070 Ti will reach the consumer market in a relatively short period of time. Compared with GeForce RTX 3080 and GeForce RTX 3070, in addition to higher performance, people are more interested in the new version of the cryptocurrency mining limiter. At the same time, the new GPU is likely to already support Rezisable BAR without waiting for the vBIOS update.

    Nvidia will soon launch an updated version of GAxx2 chips to partners, and it is expected to start shipping in mid-May, which means that the first batch of chips will be put on the market in June. Nvidia describes these new versions of chips as “Lite Hash Rate”, which is also the way Nvidia describes when communicating with partners.

    Obviously, the new version of “Lite Hash Rate” GPU will cover all the GeForce RTX 30 series products that Nvidia has released. Of course, Nvidia will also use a new core code name for the updated GPU, which is the only way to distinguish whether the new version or the old version of the GPU is used in the same graphics card. The specific change is as follows:

    NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090-GA102-300 -> GA102-302
    NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti-GA102-250
    NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080-GA102-200 -> GA102-202
    NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti-GA104-400
    NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070-GA104-300 -> GA104-302
    NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti-GA104-200 -> GA104-202
    NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060-GA106-300 -> GA106-302

    With the launch of the LHR version of the GeForce RTX 30 series, the supply of Ampere-based products should be improved. At that time, NVIDIA may explain what specific measures have been taken to limit the mining performance of the new version of GPU. The previous limitation of GeForce RTX 3060 is obviously no longer valid, and the result is quite embarrassing. VideoCardz reported that there is news that the GeForce RTX 3090 may be the only GPU in the entire series that will not introduce a new version of the cryptocurrency mining limiter. Due to the high price and its specifications and design, it is not so cost-effective for mining. The updated version is probably just to support Rezisable BAR.
