  • Intel will release 12th-Gen Core processors and 600 series motherboards in September

At this year’s CES 2021 exhibition, Intel hastily released the eleventh generation Core i9-11900K processor based on the Rocket Lake-S architecture. Due to the very difficult problems encountered in the manufacturing process, the Rocket Lake-S series processors still use the 14nm process.

At the meeting, Intel also announced the name of the next-generation desktop processor architecture, Alder Lake-S. Fortunately, this architecture was finally converted to 10nm. However, at the time Intel did not disclose the specific launch time of Alder Lake-S, only to say It will be listed in the second half of 2021.

Recently, it was reported that Intel will release the 12th-Gen Core processor with a 10nm process in September this year, and will also release the corresponding 600 series motherboard. Because the interface of this generation of the processor has been changed to LGA 1700, so cannot be used on previous motherboards.

In other words, the 500 series motherboards that will be released in February of this year may be the shortest-lived generation motherboards. Of course, what is even more embarrassing is that the 11th generation Core desktop processors will not be released until March. It is really a transitional product.

Intel previously announced that the Alder Lake-S architecture will adopt a large and small core design similar to the ARM architecture, which can better schedule and allocate processor performance and reduce system power consumption.

  • Intel 11th-generation Core i5-11400 processor appears on Geekbench

Earlier, Intel announced at the CES 2021 exhibition that they are currently the most powerful civilian processor, the eleventh generation Core i9-11900K processor. This processor uses the Rocket Lake-S architecture and is still a 14nm process.

At the same time, Intel also mentioned the way that more 11th-generation Core desktop processors based on the Rocket Lake-S architecture will be available in the first quarter of this year, but did not disclose the exact date of listing.

However, as a high-profile processor head company, leaks before product launches are inevitable. Today, some netizens found the parameter information of the unlisted Intel 11th generation Core i5-11400 processor in the Geekbench database.

According to the data, the Core i5-11400 processor adopts a 6-core 12-thread design with a base frequency of 2.6GHz and a core frequency of 4.4GHz. It is based on the Rocket Lake-S architecture and adopts a Cypress Cove core design.

As we all know, all processors based on the Rocket Lake-S architecture will continue to use the 14nm process, the i5-11400 processor is no exception, the pin is also LGA 1200, but because the previous generation of H410 and B460 motherboard cores are used 22nm process, so if you want to be perfectly compatible with this processor, at least it must be a 400 series H470 motherboard and above, or directly a 500 series motherboard.

According to the data of Geekbench, the single-core performance of the i5-11400 processor is 11% faster than the previous generation processor (i5-10400), and the multi-core is 8% faster.
