Samsung may change the hinge on the Galaxy Z Fold5

Samsung, as one of the pioneers in launching foldable screen smartphones, may have risen early yet fell behind rivals such as Oppo, Huawei, and Google, particularly in the pivotal hinge design of foldable screen phones. However, the latest news suggests that Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 is set to prioritize improvements in hinge technology.

Rumours abound that Samsung will host its biannual Unpacked product launch next month, debuting the new generation of foldable screen phones. Consequently, the website MySmartPrice has reportedly obtained promotional posters for the new device. The Galaxy Z Fold5, compared to the current Galaxy Z Fold4, primarily enhances its hinge design. Previous conjecture indicated Samsung’s adoption of a “droplet” structure that would minimize the volume of the hinge, enabling the device, when closed, to attain a complete fit without forming a wedge, as is presently the case.

Furthermore, the prominent issue of creases on foldable screen phones, a significant concern for consumers, has been noticeably improved on the Galaxy Z Fold5, offering superior screen aesthetics. In this respect, Samsung has been lagging behind newcomers like Oppo. However, given the current Galaxy Z Fold4’s certification for water and dust resistance, if this attribute is continued in the new device, it would afford Samsung a significant advantage.

In terms of hardware configuration, the Galaxy Z Fold5 is anticipated to be on par with the Galaxy S23 series, featuring Qualcomm’s second-generation Snapdragon 8 SoC. The camera system is composed of a 50-megapixel primary lens, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens. Additional features include a 4400mAh battery supporting 45W fast charging and 25W wireless charging.

In other aspects, based on the poster’s design, there appear to be no substantial changes in the Galaxy Z Fold5’s exterior. Naturally, these are only rumors at present, and the precise details await Samsung’s formal release next month.
