Manus Unveils Browser Operator: AI Automation Inside Your Local Chrome/Edge

Manus has unveiled Browser Operator — a browser extension that transforms an ordinary installation of Chrome or Edge into a powerful instrument for automating complex tasks. The AI assistant can now operate not only within a cloud-based browser, but directly inside the user’s local environment.

Previously, Manus functioned exclusively through its cloud browser — an isolated sandbox designed for secure task execution. This architecture allowed users to conduct research, build websites, and analyze data without installing software on their machines. The cloud browser remains the primary tool for most scenarios, yet there are situations in which local access becomes indispensable.

The challenge arises when working with services that require authentication. Premium research platforms, CRM systems, and corporate tools are already open in the user’s local browser, with active sessions and preserved cookies. Browser Operator leverages this advantage, merging the power of cloud automation with the convenience of local access.

When Manus operates through the local browser, services interpret its activity as the user’s own actions. The IP address is familiar, the browser session is trusted, CAPTCHAs do not appear, and logins remain intact. The system bypasses typical protection barriers because its requests originate from a legitimate environment.

Browser Operator is particularly valuable for automating workflows within paid services — Crunchbase, PitchBook, SimilarWeb, the Financial Times, Semrush, Ahrefs, and any platform requiring a subscription or login. The AI can execute multi-step operations: correlate market data, synthesize reports, extract insights. Tasks that once required hours of manual effort become entirely automated.

Launching the extension requires three simple steps. First, activate the My Browser connector in the settings. Then, when a task is assigned, Manus will request permission to control the browser — access is granted once per task. After authorization, the AI opens a new tab in a dedicated tab group titled with the current task’s name.

The user retains full control throughout the process. They may observe the task in real time, take over the tab at any moment, or instantly halt the operation by closing it. Every action performed by Manus is logged, creating a complete audit trail.

A notable feature is the ability to run tasks remotely. If the primary computer is powered on, Browser Operator can be initiated and monitored from a phone or another device. The local IP remains unchanged, ensuring services detect no discrepancy.

The extension is currently in beta and available to Pro, Plus, and Team subscribers. Chrome and Edge are recommended, with support for additional browsers to follow. Certain complex interactions — such as drag-and-drop or intricate multi-step forms — may still be unstable.

Before granting authorization, users should review which data the AI will be able to access, especially on sites containing sensitive information. The process can be terminated at any moment. Browser Operator requires no alterations to existing habits or configurations — it simply adds new capabilities to what already works.
