PlayStation 5 network hardware: support WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1

Sony’s previously released PlayStation 4 game console has become a classic, and the entire series also occupies a great position in the history of Sony game consoles.

Players who bought the early version of PlayStation 4 should know that its biggest drawback is that its WiFi is really bad. The reason for this problem is that Sony equipped it with a cheap, outdated WiFi chip instead of the later 802.11ac chip.

Early PlayStation 4 players who encountered this problem can only choose to play online games normally through a wired network, otherwise, they will encounter various problems caused by a poor WiFi network.

Today, a Brazilian media reveals the list of network hardware configurations for Sony’s upcoming next-generation game console PlayStation 5. Fortunately, Sony did not choose to equip PlayStation 5 with a cheap WiFi chip again.

The list shows that Sony has equipped the PlayStation 5 with WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 technologies. Just by looking at the name, you may not be able to intuitively feel the difference in network hardware configuration between the two generations of models.

For a simple comparison, the WiFi 4 technology used in the early version of PlayStation 4 has a maximum speed of only 300Mbps, while the WiFi of PlayStation 4 Pro/Slim can provide a maximum download speed of 3.5Gbps, and the WiFi 6 technology of PlayStation 5 can provide a maximum download speed of 9.6Gbps. And because of the advanced protocol, PlayStation 5 can still maintain a stable and fast network connection even in a complex network environment.

In terms of Bluetooth, the bandwidth and latency of Bluetooth 5.1 equipped with PlayStation 5 are also much stronger than Bluetooth 2.1 of PlayStation 4 and Bluetooth 4.0 of PlayStation 4 Pro/Slim. Therefore, the compatibility and performance of PlayStation 5’s Bluetooth devices are stronger than ever.
