Debian community leader, Sam Hartman does not run for Debian Project Leader this year

Sam Hartman, who was elected as the new Debian Project Leader (DPL) last year, has announced that he will not run for the DPL this year.

Sam Hartman said that serving as a DPL has brought him incredible results, and is pleased to have the opportunity to contribute to the Debian project. He hopes to have the opportunity to be a DPL in the future, but 2020 is not the right time for him and the project, so he will not participate in the election this year.

Hartman spent a considerable amount of time in the email to share his thoughts on DPL, a review of last year’s work, and the community’s ideas for the next year.

Debian maintainer dissatisfied

When Hartman was elected to the DPL last year, he stated that one of his top priorities was to improve the decision-making process. It can also be seen from his sharing that Hartman did put most of his energy into decision making, and from the results, Hartman succeeded, and he promoted many consensus-based discussions in which Debian community members Various options were explored and concluded.

Hartman also mentioned the issue of Debian being harassed by former project members. He said that throughout his tenure as a DPL, Debian has been harassed by former project members, and DPL’s main job in the past few months has been dealing with lawyers. This is nothing new, as the problem persisted for most of his pre-term tenure.
