The newly designed MacBook Air may be delayed

There have been rumors for a long time that Apple will release a newly designed MacBook Air in 2022. Since Apple switched from Intel x86 processors to self-developed chips, and the original MacBook Air was not optimized for the M1 chip, it did not fully highlight the features of self-developed chips on the MacBook Air. According to Wccftech, Apple’s new MacBook Air plans have encountered obstacles and may delay the release.

It has been widely believed that the MacBook Air will use the M2, an improved version of the M1. The CPU part has 8 cores, which are 4 high-performance cores and 4 efficiency cores, and the GPU part has 9 or 10 cores. The clock of the new chip will be higher than that of the M1. However, there have been different voices recently, thinking that it is possible to continue to carry the M1, and the reason is unknown. In addition, due to cost issues, Apple will not necessarily introduce mini-LED displays on the newly designed MacBook Air series.

If it cannot be equipped with the M2 chip and there is no mini-LED display, it will be difficult to attract more consumers only by relying on the new appearance and more color options. Some analysts said that Apple is likely to choose to delay the release of the new MacBook Air plan to match the progress of the M2 chip, but there is a high probability that the mini-LED display will eventually be abandoned. Mass production may have to wait until the third quarter of this year, in time for the release at the end of the year. The newly designed MacBook Air should be the same as the previous new MacBook Pro models, with a notch design, and will also be equipped with a MagSafe magnetic charging port, and a Thunderbolt 4 port on each side of the fuselage, however, these Thunderbolt 4 ports do not support eGPUs.
