Sony may use a new custom SoC on the PlayStation 5 Pro

Sometime after the release of the next-generation game console, Sony will generally start the improvement work. In most cases, the appearance will be reduced, and the CPU and GPU will be manufactured using new processes in order to reduce cost and power consumption. It was rumored last year that Sony plans to launch a more powerful PlayStation 5 Pro sometime in 2023-2024.

According to Wccftech, Sony may opt for new CPU and GPU architectures on the PlayStation 5 Pro, optimized for high-performance computing. It is rumored that the CPU part may be Zen 4 architecture, and the new custom SoC will be manufactured using TSMC’s 5nm process. Sony wants the PlayStation 5 Pro to offer twice the performance of the original PlayStation 5 in terms of traditional rasterization and 2.5 times the performance when ray tracing is turned on. The massive performance boost could also provide a better experience for PlayStation VR games.

Sony is also said to be using the new graphics technology on the console. In addition, according to TweakTown, Sony recently sent multiple “console prototypes” overseas to the United States. The code registered with customs shows that it belongs to a home video game-related product, and it is speculated that it may be an early version of the PlayStation 5 Pro system kit.

Higher performance may bring other problems, and there is news that the PlayStation 5 Pro will be priced between $600 and $700, while the TDP will also reach 300W. Sony is rumored to be planning to launch the PlayStation 5 Pro sometime between late 2023 and 2024 to cater to the high-end 4K and 8K resolution gaming market.
