Sony continues to shed weight on PlayStation 5

About a year ago, Sony launched a revised version of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition in Japan. The new version is model number CFI-1100B, which is 300 grams lighter than the old version CFI-1000B. After dismantling, it can be seen that the new batch of PlayStation 5 digital editions have been changed in the cooling system as expected, the structure has been simplified and the volume has become smaller, and the Wi-Fi module has also been rewired.

According to Press Start, Sony recently started selling a new version of the PlayStation 5 in Australia, the disc console version is CFI-1202A, and the digital version is CFI-1202B. The corresponding weights are 3.9kg and 3.4kg, which are 300g and 200g lighter than the existing version (CFI-1102A/B), respectively, and 600g and 500g lighter than the originally released version.
After consulting the official manual and quick start guide, Press Start found that the new version should be the same except for the weight. It is speculated that the new version of the PlayStation 5 has also undergone some changes in the internal structure, and the idea of weight reduction may be similar to the previous one, but the specific situation will not be known until it is dismantled. Local dealers say Australia should be the first region to ship the new version.

Sony recently announced that it will increase the retail price of PlayStation 5 in various countries and regions, which has caused heated discussions among players. Sony blamed the current global economic environment and its impact on SIE’s business but rivals Microsoft and Nintendo have no plans to raise prices for the time being. The new Australian release also features new pricing, with both models retailing for $50 more.
