Sony announces new flagship Bluetooth active noise-canceling headphones WH-1000XM5

As previously announced, Sony officially announced the new flagship Bluetooth active noise-canceling headset WH-1000XM5, which is determined to adopt a more minimalist design, and the frame has also been adjusted to a non-concave design. At the same time, it has also changed its shape since its launch in 2016 and replaced it with a newly developed high-efficiency sounding unit by Sony, emphasizing the provision of better active noise reduction and high-resolution sound quality.

The biggest change of WH-1000XM5 is that the overall appearance has been significantly adjusted. At the same time, the original concave-folding storage mechanism has been canceled, and only the left and right earmuffs are left horizontally flipped. The design emphasizes the use of a new laminated leather design to further enhance the passive sound insulation effect.

The fuselage is equipped with 4 sets of radio microphones and 8 sets of microphone systems for noise reduction, and uses the V1 chip previously used in the WH-1000XM4, with the QN1 noise reduction processing chip, it can perform more complex and fast audio processing procedures. It claims to be able to filter more high-frequency concentrated frequency external noise than the previous generation product. The call part uses 4 sets of microphones for beamforming radio reception.

The sound part adopts Sony’s newly designed 30mm sound-generating unit. Compared with the previous 40mm specification, this time it mainly adopts the carbon fiber composite lightweight sphere design. In this way, it corresponds to a more natural and delicate high-frequency sound performance, and at the same time, it can also match the soft suspension edge to correspond to the rich low-frequency sound performance. The circuit system adopts the gold-containing lead-free solder technology used by Sony for top-gauge Walkman products to ensure that the circuit resistance does not affect the sound quality output performance.

In the audio output section, WH-1000XM5 also corresponds to Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Wireless Audio high-resolution sound quality output performance. It also supports LDAC encoded content playback, as well as the corresponding 360 Reality Audio audio technology and DSEE Extreme digital sound quality restoration technology, and also supports the function of Speak-to-Chat to switch the sound output mode by speaking directly. It supports digital assistant services such as Google Assistant. With BRAVIA XR series TVs, spatial stereo sound can be used, and the volume performance can be automatically adjusted when listening in different environments.

In the boxed part, the WH-1000XM5 will be packaged in a plastic-free material and will be packaged in the same composite fiber material as the WH-1000XM4, while the earphone storage part will provide a newly designed storage bag.

The WH-1000XM5 is expected to be sold in the North American market from May 20, with a suggested price of $399.99, while the UK price is 379 euros.
