Some users fail to install update KB4524570

On the patch Tuesday event day in November this year, Microsoft released KB4524570 cumulative update. However, Windows 10 May 2019 (Version 1903) and Windows 10 November 2019 (Version 1909) users were unable to install the cumulative update. In the Microsoft community, some users got error codes such as 0x80073701 and 0x8009001d appeared when they are trying to install KB4524570 cumulative update.

It is worth noting that Microsoft has acknowledged that there are installation issues with this cumulative update. According to the support documentation, although most of the installation issues on November 12 have been resolved, there are still some users who have problems. In the support documentation, Microsoft wrote:

Installation of updates may fail and you may receive the error message, “Updates Failed, There were problems installing some updates, but we’ll try again later” or “Error 0x80073701” on the Windows Update dialog or within Update history.

Microsoft pointed out that this problem has been solved for most users. For those users who still have installation failures, Microsoft provided a temporary solution a few days ago:

  1. Select the start button and type cmd
  2. Right click or long press on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
  3. If you receive a User Access Control (UAC) dialog for Windows Command Processor stating, “Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?”, select Yes.
  4. Type or copy and paste the following command into the Command Prompt window:
    dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup
  5. Wait for the command to complete.
  6. Restart your device.
  7. Try checking for updates again.
