Samsung Display, a subsidiary of Samsung, acquired Cynora GmbH, a display equipment start-up company located in Germany, for about $300 million, thereby obtaining its OLED screen technology and related technology patents.
At present, Cynora GmbH has recently disbanded the company members, because, in this transaction, it seems that engineering and technical personnel are not included, only OLED screen technology and related technology patents are covered.
Prior to this,
Samsung has invested in Cynora GmbH with LG and other industry players. After this transaction, Cynora GmbH may be merged into Samsung Display, and it is also expected to change the existing external cooperation relationship.
The purpose of acquiring Cynora GmbH, Samsung is obviously to obtain its foldable OLED display screen technology. In addition, it also includes the technical content of improving the color display contrast and reducing the overall power consumption through blue light and green light, thereby strengthening the display technology development of mobile phone display screens, TVs, and other products.
Recent rumors have revealed that Samsung’s new screen foldable mobile phone is expected to launch this year, which is expected to make the traces of the fold smaller and also greatly improve the durability.
