Razer to launch Razer Edge 5G Android gaming console

US operator Verizon announced at Mobile World Congress in Las Vegas that it will partner with Razer and Qualcomm to launch the Razer Edge 5G, the world’s first 5G gaming console. It uses Qualcomm Snapdragon G3x Gen1 platform, equipped with an Android system. Verizon says it’s an always-connected portable gaming device that can play Android games or stream games from the cloud or local console/PC.

Qualcomm separated the Qualcomm and Snapdragon brands at the end of last year. Snapdragon will become an independent product brand, and at the same time, a new strategy has been implemented, and Snapdragon has also begun to change in product line layout and promotion. In addition to the Snapdragon 8 mobile platform for high-end smartphones, the Snapdragon G3x Gen1 platform for handheld mobile devices has also been launched, but its specific specifications have not been disclosed. There were reports at the time that the platform’s developer kit was designed in collaboration with Razer, and images of the handheld were leaked.

The Razer Edge 5G is rumored to feature a 6.65-inch OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, support for HDR, and a massive 6000mAh battery. It also supports Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, Snapdragon Sound, Snapdragon Elite Gaming, 5G millimeter wave, and 1080P webcam, and is equipped with a USB-C port for 4K TV or monitor output, or to connect other control devices or accessories.

Razer will hold the RazerCon 2022 digital gaming celebration on the 16th of next month when the Razer Edge 5G will be officially released and related product introductions will be made. Razer has been trying to enter the handheld gaming device market for a long time, but it has not been successful. I don’t know what will happen with the Razer Edge 5G this time.
