PHP has been removed in macOS Monterey
Recently, a user asked questions in the Apple Developer Forums. MacOS 12 seems to lack PHP. The engineer in charge of Developer Tools Engineer replied: “PHP has been removed in macOS Monterey.”
Someone expressed their understanding of Apple’s decision because the PHP version that comes with the system is almost out of date and lacks useful extensions. For anyone who uses PHP, there is now an easier way to install and manage multiple versions (brew, Docker, etc.) at the same time without having to deal with outdated and conflicting versions.
There are also users who think this is a huge step backward, because one of the great advantages of macOS is the built-in Apache, which includes PHP, and the user thinks Apple needs to reconsider this. In fact, as early as the release notes of Xcode 11, it has been prompted: “Scripting language runtimes such as Python, Ruby, and Perl are included in macOS for compatibility with legacy software. In future versions of macOS, scripting language runtimes won’t be available by default, and may require you to install an additional package. If your software depends on scripting languages, it’s recommended that you bundle the runtime within the app. (49764202)”
