OnePlus 8/ 9 series will receive 3 years of system + 4 years of security patch updates

As there are many models of Android mobile phones, system updates have always been based on the support of mobile phone manufacturers. Of course, there are still more laborious manufacturers, such as Google and Samsung. Both of them have supported system updates for several years. Now OnePlus has also given its promise. OnePlus 8 series and newer flagship models (currently the OnePlus 9 series) will receive 3 years of major updates, plus 4 years of security patch updates.

Samsung has the same system update strategy before, and they also promised that the flagship model will have a three-year system update and a four-year security patch update. But compared to a big company like Samsung, which has a lot of money and higher prices for high-end mobile phones, OnePlus is conscientious enough to guarantee such a system update. In fact, this is mainly due to their integration of the original hydrogen/oxygen OS into their parent company. OPPO’s Color OS is included, which greatly simplifies the difficulty of development and reduces resources.

OnePlus writes:

Most importantly, with this change, we are happy to announce an improved software maintenance schedule for the lifecycle of our open market smartphones:

  • Flagship product line (including T / R): The OnePlus 8 series and newer devices will receive 3 major Android updates and 4 years of security updates.
  • Nord / Nord CE: The first OnePlus Nord and newer Nord / Nord CE devices will receive 2 major Android updates and 3 years of security updates.
  • Nord N series: Starting from N10 and N100, all N series devices will receive 1 major Android update and 3 years of security updates.
