Nikkei Asia: at least one model of the iPhone 14 series will be delayed

Apple will release a new generation of the iPhone 14 series this fall. It is rumored that there will be four models of iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, and the mini model will be replaced by the iPhone 14 Max with a 6.7-inch screen. However, Nikkei Asia said that due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, there may be delays in the iPhone 14 series.

It is understood that at least one of the four models of iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max will be delayed, and it is currently about three weeks behind the normal progress. In addition, production will also be affected, and the production number may be reduced by 6 million to 10 million units. Apple has told companies involved in the supply chain that it needs to speed up production to make up for the lost time. However, even if the production speed is increased, the schedule may still not be completed on time.

Insiders pointed out that Apple and its suppliers are working around the clock. If the process can be accelerated to the next stage from the end of June to the beginning of July, the mass production deadline in early September can still be caught up, but there are still large uncertainties. It is reported that Apple originally planned to release the iPhone 14 series in late September. In view of the current situation, the release time may be changed. If it is released, as usual, the initial supply will be affected.

Of course, it’s not the first time Apple has encountered a similar problem. At Apple’s fall 2017 conference, the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X were released at the same time, but the iPhone X was delayed by a full two months and did not go on sale until November 2017.
