Mozilla and Google renew their cooperation until 2023
The CEO of Mozilla suddenly announced a few days ago that the company will carry out large-scale layoffs. The CEO of Mozilla said that the layoffs were mainly due to the outbreak of the epidemic, which led to a sharp drop in the company’s revenue.
The layoffs involved a total of 250 employees, accounting for 25% of the total employees of the Mozilla. The number can be said to be very large for Mozilla, which has only about 1,000 employees. This is not the first time that Mozilla has caused it.
In our previous report, it was stated that the default search engine agreement between the Mozilla and Google for the Firefox browser is about to expire. If the contract cannot be renewed, the development of the Mozilla may face some bad situations.
However, there is good news that Mozilla has renewed its contract with Google, and Google to remain the default search engine in Firefox for the next three years. Therefore, during this period of time, Mozilla has a fairly stable source of income.
Media estimate that Google will pay USD 400 million to USD 450 million to Mozilla each year for this agreement. However, the two companies have not officially confirmed that the agreement has been renewed, but it may be officially disclosed on Monday.
At present, the main income of the Mozilla comes from three search engine companies, the American company Google, the Russian company Yandex, and the Chinese company Baidu. All three companies have paid to become the default search engine for the Firefox browser in a certain region. In the past few years, the market share of Firefox browser on each platform has gradually declined, and Firefox Phone and Firefox OS have not made particularly big progress.
