Motorola unveils Edge 2022: equipped with MediaTek Dimensity 1050

Recently, the Motorola Edge 2022 appeared on Motorola’s US official website. The Edge 2022 is similar in appearance to the Edge 30 Pro, but instead of using a flagship SoC, it uses MediaTek Dimensity 1050, which also makes the Edge 2022 the world’s first smartphone equipped with this chip.

The Dimensity 1050 is manufactured using TSMC’s 6nm process and is equipped with an eight-core CPU, including two Arm Cortex-A78 large cores with the main frequency of 2.5GHz, and six Arm Cortex-A55 small cores with a main frequency of 2.0GHz. The GPU is a new generation of Arm Mali-G610, which takes into account performance and energy efficiency while supporting LPDDR5 memory and UFS 3.1 flash memory. Dimensity 1050 supports dual connection and seamless switching of 5G mmWave and Sub-6GHz full-band networks. It supports 3CC three-carrier aggregation technology in the 5G Sub-6GHz (FR1) frequency band, and supports 4CC four-carrier aggregation technology in the 5G millimeter wave (FR2) frequency band, providing higher 5G rates.

Motorola Edge 2022 measures 160.86 x 74.24 x 7.99 mm and weighs 170 grams. It adopts a 6.6-inch FHD+ (2400 x 1080) OLED display with a refresh rate of 144Hz, supports HDR10+, and has a screen ratio of 91.32%; equipped with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage; a rear 50MP main camera, a 13MP 120° ultra-wide-angle camera and a 2MP depth-of-field camera, and a front-facing 32MP camera. The battery capacity is 5000mAh, which is 200mAh higher than the Edge 30 Pro. It supports 30W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging and also provides 5W reverse charging. It supports IP52 waterproof, with NFC function; equipped with Dolby Atmos dual speakers.

The Edge 2022 is powered by Android 12, not the latest Android 13, but it is one of the first Motorola models to be compatible with Android 13 and is expected to be updated soon. The Edge 2022 is expected to be available in the U.S. soon, not sure if it will be sold elsewhere.
