Ming-Chi Kuo said that AirPods and other products will use USB-C

Although Apple has always been reluctant to give up its own proprietary Lightning interface, it has to bow its head under EU law. Apple is already preparing to switch to the USB-C port on the iPhone 15, which will be launched next year, and the iPhone 15 may be Apple’s last product to switch to the USB-C port.

Ming-Chi Kuo said that all Apple products will be replaced with USB-C ports by the end of next year. But in fact, only the iPhone 15 will change the interface next fall, and products such as AirPods will be replaced by USB-C next spring. “I predict Apple will launch USB-C-capable charging cases for all AirPods models in 2023. However, the charging case of the new AirPods Pro 2 launched in 2H22 may still support Lightning,” writes Kuo.

Why didn’t the iPhone 14 switch to USB-C? Because Apple only started testing the use of USB-C on the iPhone a few months ago, the time is tight and the iPhone 14 won’t catch up.

After the release of the iPhone 15 next fall, all Apple products will abandon the Lightning interface. It will take a few years to transition, and when the Lightning interface devices still used in the market are retired one after another, the Lightning interface will also become a thing of the past.
