Microsoft unveils Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock

According to recent reports, Microsoft is set to release the Surface Dock 3, which will feature a Type-C interface and support for Thunderbolt 4 protocol. Microsoft has recently released a new Surface Dock, not Surface Dock 3, but Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock, which reveals the new dock’s features.

The Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock is gray-black in color, has the Microsoft logo on the front, weighs 410g, measures 150x75x21.3mm, has an 80cm cable, and comes with an LED charging indicator. The dock includes a 165W power adapter, but can only charge devices connected at a maximum of 96W. The dock’s shell and power adapter are made from 20% ocean-recycled plastic, and disposable plastic is eliminated from the packaging material, making it more environmentally friendly.

In terms of ports, the dock has one USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A port and one Type-C port that supports Thunderbolt 4 on the front, and two USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A ports, two Type-C ports that support Thunderbolt 4, a 2.5G Ethernet port, and a 3.5mm audio jack on the back. The dock also has a security lock slot on the side.

As for compatibility, Surface Laptop 5, Surface Laptop Studio, Surface Pro 8, and Surface Pro 9 (Intel version) with Thunderbolt 4 ports can connect to the Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock and support two 4K@60Hz displays. The dock is also compatible with some Type-C-enabled Surface devices, but can only connect to one 4K@60Hz display. Surface Thunderbolt 4 does not support Surface Duo and Surface Duo 2.

The back of the dock has a raised tactile indicator for easier use by low-vision and blind users. The Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock can be updated via Windows Update or the Surface app and supports LAN wake on modern standby.

The Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock is now available on the Microsoft official store, priced at $299.99 and offering a one-year limited hardware warranty.
