Microsoft says TPM chip can keep Windows 11 safe

Yesterday, after Microsoft released the Windows 11 operating system, it immediately provided an upgrade detection tool, but many people were dumbfounded after running it. Obviously, their computer configuration is very good, and the tool actually prompts that Windows 11 cannot be run. This is mainly because the device lacks a “TPM” chip, and Microsoft officially explained why Windows 11 needs TPM chip support.

In fact, if you have a bit of common sense, it is not difficult to know that TPM is of course to strengthen the protection of the data security of the device. This is a hardware encryption method. A separate chip is used on the computer motherboard to store private data including keys and digital certificates. The storage area established in the underlying hardware, so general software attacks will be isolated, and it is difficult to invade the chip to obtain information.

Similar to TPM, there is a T1 or T2 chip on Apple Mac computers, and even the new iPhone and Google Pixel series also have hardware encryption chips. This TPM was actually proposed very early, but it is used in Windows PCs. By the way, it has always been mainly used in the enterprise-level market with high-security requirements. Obviously, Microsoft wants to upgrade Windows 11 to popularize it in the mass consumer market.

In recent years, some high-end motherboards actually have TPM 1.2 or 2.0 chips on board, and some motherboards have TPM slots. As for the laptop if it does not have a TPM chip, then it really cannot be upgraded at the moment. However, Microsoft said that there are already more than hundreds of computers on the market with TPM, this is called a secured-core computer, you can refer to the list here to buy a new computer.

Since Windows 11 will not be open to the existing Windows 10 computer upgrade until the end of this year’s holiday. So after not confirming whether Microsoft will modify the strategy as appropriate, after all, the installed capacity is still very important to the operating system. Of course, if you are new to a computer, it is recommended to directly choose a TPM chip, or if you are not sure which one is with this chip, then choose a model with the “Windows 11 Ready” logo.
