Microsoft may abandon the Windows Timeline in the Windows 10 Sun Valley update
The Windows 10 Timeline feature was originally a feature brought by Microsoft in Windows 10 v1709, which is the Fall Creators Update. This feature is designed to synchronize user activity records.
For example, on multiple computers that log in to the same Microsoft account, the office software and files opened by the user, some applications, and browsing history will be automatically synchronized.
The purpose of Microsoft’s development of this feature is to help users better synchronize across devices, especially to quickly synchronize content on office computers and home computers.
However, it seems that there are not many users who use this feature and Microsoft does not pay much attention to it. In the past few years, the timeline function has hardly received major updates.
In the latest Windows 10 201H2 build 21359, Microsoft mentioned that if users synchronize activity history through Microsoft, timeline synchronization is not supported.
That is, if you use the same Microsoft account to log in to multiple devices and enable the synchronization history function, the related operation activities will no longer be uploaded to the timeline record.
Microsoft said that if you want to view web history, it is recommended that users use the Microsoft Edge browser to check the records, and recent files can be viewed using Office Online.
This update will not affect Azure AD users, for the time being, that is, for ordinary users, this feature is about to go offline and will no longer support data synchronization through the timeline.
In fact, Microsoft has made adjustments to the timeline function before. For example, the Android version of the Microsoft Launcher originally supported this function and was later deleted and no longer provides support.
