iPad 2022 may switch to OLED screens
ETNews reported that there is supply chain news that Apple may use OLED screens on the 2022 version of the iPad. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro launched by Apple this year can be said to be the iPad with the most powerful screen parameters in recent years. This iPad using Mini LED has as many as 2500+ backlight partitions, with good HDR effects. Although there are still some problems with this screen, it also means that Apple may replace other products with better screens.
An anonymous person in the panel industry revealed to ETNews that Apple is preparing to install OLED on the iPad in 2022 and beyond. The person also said that Apple has reached an agreement with panel production, and the latter will supply related panels for the iPad.
If the news is true, then this will be another major upgrade for the iPad. The iPad has always been using TFT LCD panels. This year, the iPad Pro that used Mini LEDs abandoned TFT LCD for the first time. OLED panels are only available on the iPhone 12 or 12 Pro.
This is not the first time there is news that OLED screens will enter the iPad series. As early as March of this year, a source told DigiTimes that Apple to adopt OLED displays in iPad, MacBook in early 2022, and it may be a 10.9-inch model.
However, after Apple has achieved such success on the 2021 iPad Pro 12.9-inch version using Mini LED, it is also a question whether it will actually switch to OLED screens. Perhaps the most likely situation is that Apple uses OLED screens for other products.
