iOS 16 will abandon support for iPhone 6s/6s Plus and first-gen iPhone SE

The iOS 15.2 version has been officially launched, and Apple is now starting to develop the iOS 16 version. Of course, the current iOS 16 update is only at the very beginning, so it is meaningless to discuss its new features, but new rumors have begun in terms of device support.

It is reported that the new version that will be launched next year, iOS 16, will give up support for iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, and Apple’s first-generation iPhone SE. In other words, if you want to upgrade to iOS 16, you need at least iPhone 7 and later versions, and iPadOS 16 will no longer provide support for iPad Mini 4.

According to Apple’s previous software version support strategy, the iPhone 6S/6SP should not be able to upgrade to iOS 15, but the final result is that the iPhone 6S series has been updated. So it’s not surprising that iOS16 no longer supports the iPhone 6S series. After all, many users of the iPhone 6S series are reluctant to upgrade to iOS 15.

What needs to be explained here is that the old devices no longer get only functional updates, which does not affect users to continue to use the old iOS system. After all, Apple is still providing security updates for the old iOS system, and its support time has far exceeded six years.

For example, iPhone 5S cannot be upgraded to iOS 13, but it can still receive regular security updates from Apple to fix vulnerabilities.

Of course, all the above news will need to wait until WWDC 2022 to be verified. Apple will hold a developer conference sometime from May to June every year. At that time, it will officially announce the new iOS system and support plan, and then officially launch it in September.
