Intel SOC3 chip appears with 256EU

During Intel’s 2022 investor conference last month, Intel announced the release schedule for several products, which include the Intel Arc (DG2) graphics cards, which will be available for desktop platforms in the second quarter of 2022. According to past information, different models are configured on the basis of SOC1 (DG2-512EU) and SOC2 (DG2-128EU) chips.

In the recent Intel graphics system controller firmware update library for Linux, Twitter user @KOMACHI_ENSAKA found traces of Intel’s third DG2 chip (SOC3). This GPU, also based on the Xe-HPG architecture, has 256 EUs, 2048 stream processors, and should probably be called DG2-256EU. Compared with the high-end DG2-512EU, the DG2-256EU is halved in size, which means that its chip area is smaller and it is easier to manufacture.

In the past, DG2-256EU also had some clues, but since Intel did not mention it in the relevant information, and only showed SOC1 and SOC2, SOC3 has been ignored.

Intel has been slow to release Alchemist graphics cards, and rumors have once again delayed, and it is said that the first products will be released in the 18th to 22nd week of 2022, that is, from May 2, 2022, to June 1, 2022. Intel will hold a two-day Vision 2022 conference on May 10, which will include multiple keynote speeches and business presentations, which is considered to be the release time of the Arc graphics card.
