Intel officially showcases Alder Lake for the first time

With the release time of the 12th generation Core series processors approaching, Intel officially started various activities and introduced its architecture, technology, and performance indicators, and warmed up its first desktop platform x86 processor using 10nm Enhanced SuperFin process and big.LITTLE hybrid architecture.

In the past period of time, Intel Alder Lake photos circulating on the Internet were leaked through unofficial channels. Recently, Intel’s senior vice president and general manager of the Client Computing Division, Gregory M Bryant, showed a photo of Alder Lake on his Twitter account. This is Intel’s first official display of Alder Lake, but it did not confirm a specific release date. Comparing the photos of ES1 and ES2 before this leak, Alder Lake has not changed much in design. In fact, Intel’s partners have switched from ES3 to QS last month.

Previously, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger said in an interview with CRN, he doesn’t care about AMD’s rising market share, or chips based on the Arm architecture, thinking that AMD’s leading position will end, and Intel has returned. In Pat Gelsinger’s view, Intel’s upcoming Alder Lake and Sapphire Rapids will regain ground. Alder Lake will be unveiled within this year, and Sapphire Rapids will be unveiled in the first half of next year.

Recently, Intel seems to be interested in the RISC-V architecture. There have been reports that Intel intends to spend US$2 billion to purchase the RISC-V start-up SiFive. Even if it will not be acquired in the end, Intel has already cooperated with SiFive. Intel recently launched a new generation of Nios soft-core processor Nios V on FPGA, which uses the RISC-V architecture.
