Intel DG2-512 chip size is approximately 396.2mm2

Intel’s Alchemist GPU photos to be released at CES 2022 next year were leaked last week. These GPUs will be the future Arc series of graphics cards, which will be widely used in gaming PCs and workstations. With the outflow of these GPU photos, everyone has measured the size of these chips. In fact, the chip area of Alchemist DG2-512 is closer to the size of NVIDIA GA104.

@Locuza gave the estimated size of the DG2-512 and DG2-128 GPUs based on the actual photos. Compared with the previous rendering, the measured size of the real chip is actually more accurate. The chip size of Intel DG2-512 is approximately 396.2mm2, while the core area of GA104 GPU used by NVIDIA RTX 3070/3070 Ti is 392.5mm2, the Navi 22 used by AMD RX 6700XT is 336mm2. It can be seen that DG2-512 is much larger than Navi 22 and slightly larger than GA104.

The area of DG2-128 is between 147.7-154.9mm2, which is a very small chip. The size of GA106 is 276mm2, and the size of Navi23 is 237mm2.

The internal design of Intel Xe HPG is shown in the figure above. The basic module of GPU is Xe Core. Each Xe Core contains 16 vector engines and 16 matrix engines. This design is more like NVIDIA’s Ampere and Turing architecture. Intel Xe HPG supports hardware-level deep learning super sampling technology (XeSS).
