SmarterASP.NET is a well-known ASP.NET hosting provider with more than 440,000 customers. Yesterday, the company issued a notice saying that it was attacked by ransomware. This is the third large-scale web hosting company that was attacked. The hacker not only destroyed the company’s hosting business but also encrypted the data on the client-server. SmarterASP.NET said it is working hard to recover customer data. At present, the company has not responded to requests for comments.

According to the information displayed on its official website, the company admitted to being hacked. The message said:
Your hosting account was under attack and hackers have encrypted all your data. We are now working with security experts to try to decrypt your data and also to make sure this would never happen again.”
This cyber-attack not only encrypts the customer data but also targets the SmarterASP.NET official website. After going offline on Saturday, it will resume on Sunday morning. The server recovery work is progressing slowly. Many customers still do not have access to their accounts and data. These encrypted customer data includes website files and back-end databases.
