GPU shipments surged by 123 million units in Q2’21

According to the latest market research by Jon Peddie Research, the global PC market’s GPU shipment growth in the second quarter of 2021 hit 123 million units, of which CPU shipments increased by 42%. GPU shipments will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 3.5%, and it is expected to reach 3.318 billion units by the end of 2025. In the next five years, the penetration of discrete GPUs (dGPU) in the PC will increase to 25%.

Generally speaking, the second quarter of each year GPU shipments will be lower than the first quarter, but this quarter GPU shipment increased by 3.4% quarter-on-quarter, while the entire PC CPU market increased by 3.5% quarter-on-quarter and 42.1% year-on-year. Shipments of desktop discrete graphics cards decreased by 2.9% from the previous quarter, while tablet PC shipments increased by 3.4% from the previous quarter.

In this quarter, AMD’s overall market share decreased by 0.2% from the previous quarter, while Intel’s market share increased by 0.1%, and NVIDIA’s market share increased by 0.06%.

In this quarter, the market share of AMD and NVIDIA’s independent display is shown in the above table. AMD dropped by 3% year-on-year and 2% month-on-month, while NVIDIA went the other way.
